How Econea offers PPL boxes, Balíkovna and Packeta in its Shopify Plus checkout

Econea sells natural cosmetics, eco-friendly household products and zero waste goods, and cares about what goes into every one of them. Their store for Czechia and Slovakia runs on Shopify Plus, and Globe added one thing to it: choosing a PPL, Balíkovna or Packeta pickup point right in the checkout. Everything else stayed as it was. Labels still come out of Balikobot, the warehouse works the same way and their own Shopify Flow runs on top of the orders.

Econea

Five stars, no question. Fantastic support and deep configurability. Our store is not the smallest, and it made me really happy that every one of our specifics could be handled with ease.

What Econea ships with

Two PPL rates, each with its own points

PPL appears twice in Econea's checkout. The cheaper PPL Smart2Box offers only PPL's self-service boxes, while PPL Pickup Points offers the whole network, AlzaBoxes and partner points included. In Globe each shipping method has its own point type restriction, so a customer on Smart2Box never even sees a branch on the map. Balíkovna and Packeta sit next to PPL in the checkout, and in Slovakia PPL and Packeta. Roughly six in ten customers end up choosing a PPL box.

Choosing a point is required: the customer cannot complete the order until they pick one. Econea kept the multi-step checkout because they offer add-on products between the steps, and the point selector fit into it without a rebuild. Anyone who still misses it picks the point on the thank-you page or the order status page.

Labels still go through Balikobot

Econea did not switch on Globe's labels, and did not need to. Globe rewrites nothing in the order: the shipping address stays as it is and no tags are added. It only writes the chosen point into the order attributes: ID, name, coordinates and point type. Balikobot reads it from there and prints the label just as before, so the warehouse had nothing new to learn and no integration had to be rewired.

Their own Flow on top of the orders

On Plus, Econea has Shopify Flow, and they built their own safety nets in it on top of Globe's attributes. A minute after an order is created, a Flow checks whether the chosen point type matches the shipping method, and if it does not, switches the order to PPL Pickup Points so the customer still gets their parcel. Orders without a chosen point are tagged by another Flow of their own, so even the tags stayed theirs.

If they want more, Globe's Flow actions are there too, such as picking the nearest point the shipping method allows. So far they have not needed them: the setup stays Econea's and Globe supplies the data.

Thanks to Econea for letting us show their store. Their motto, “checked down to the detail”, fits the range too: natural cosmetics, eco-friendly household products, zero waste for the home, food and things for mums and children. If you are slowly switching to gentler products at home, you will find it all in one place there.
